An open heart. An outstretched hand.
Studies show the number one health risk after 80 years of age is isolation. If your loved one is alone at home, there is an increased risk of depression, medication mistakes and falls. Living at The Piper encourages socialization
among neighbors, provides care with daily activities and promotes a healthy, happy life.
Residents at The Piper have their own apartment home that includes a kitchenette, bedroom, living area and bathroom. Their larger household also includes a lovely open kitchen and family room, dining room, living room, den and sun room. It truly is a “home within a home.” The Piper has six such unique households.
The Piper in Kansas City is designed with The Household Model – a philosophy designed to replace institutional floor plans of the past. Each household has a front entrance with a doorbell for guests to ring. Staff and residents can answer the door just like home. Walk into the household and you’ll be greeted with smells of fresh baked cookies. You’ll see residents gathered around a dining table chatting while a homemaker whips up food made-to-order.
The beautifully decorated common spaces display lots of original and regional art, comfortable
seating and provide plenty of natural sunlight. You’ll find personalized entrances to private apartments, rather than long hallways with identical doors leading into small rooms.
It just takes one visit for family and friends to realize the difference a household makes.

We understand that when you’re moving your mother or father to assisted living, it’s a very emotional time. That’s why our team of professionals want to offer you peace of mind. We’re here to provide assistance with all daily activities. Care services are customized to fit each individual. While one resident may need medication assistance, another may need bathing help. This is a not a one-plan fits all. While all residents receive basic amenities, all other services are determined by an assessment from nursing staff. When you come to The Piper to visit your mom or dad, you’re not longer a caregiver; you’re just family.
Leave the burden of home ownership behind. We’ll take care of the house maintenance, the lawn care and shoveling the snow. Housekeeping and cooking are provided by staff. Now there is time for socialization and fun. Weekly activities include exercise class, games, music, happy hour, movies, art classes, groups outings, shopping trips, church and bible study, and so much more. Residents can be as busy as they care to be. Or they can find solace in their private apartment to rest or read a book. The Piper is truly resident driven.
If you have concerns about your loved one living at home, it may be time to consider assisted living. If there have been falls, confusion over taking medications, weight loss, poor hygiene, forgetfulness and repetitive questions, it may mean that being isolated at home is a serious health risk.
Remodeling the present home may help for a time, but it is not the cure for isolation and lack of social interaction. Trained professionals at The Piper provide assistance while helping preserve an individual’s dignity and independence.
The Piper is the only assisted living community in the Kansas City metro to offer Physician Directed Nursing. This household is staffed to provide a very high level of care. That means all levels of care can be provided and allows each resident and family to have the confidence that a move to a nursing home will never be necessary.
When family caregivers need time to attend to other obligations or simply to take a vacation, respite care at The Piper makes it possible. Loved ones can spend a few weeks in a lovely furnished apartment while receiving care, meals, activities and housekeeping. If you or a loved one needs a short-term transition from a rehabilitation center before returning home, respite care at The Piper may be the answer.
