New Year, New You!

by Connie Michaelis, Lifestyle Consultant at The Piper

Time does seem to fly. We’re already through January and on our way to Spring. In February, we will gain one hour and eight minutes of daylight. What will 2019 hold for you? Do you anticipate any major events this new year? My co-worker is having her first baby this spring. My granddaughter will get her driver’s license. What do you foresee in 2019? Someone said the only sure things are death and taxes, but change is really the one thing we can count on. For many Seniors, each year presents growing questions about remaining at home. Will this be the year you move to retirement living? We meet people every day that are exploring the possibilities but figuring out the timing is the big question. I can tell you that 90% of our new residents tell us they wish they had moved sooner. Have you entertained the possibility that 2019 would be a great year to move?

Instead of waiting to see if something happens this year, why don’t you make something happen? Be proactive about your future. Make 2019 the year that you explore the options. Do your comparison shopping and talk to others that have completed the process. Come for a lunch and a tour. Engage your family to help. Start the downsizing, while you are able. Commit to two hours a day. Start sorting your belongings and make plans for the distribution. Use the sticky note process and start designating items as: dumpster, sell, give away and plan to move. Abraham Lincoln said, “The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time.” What will you do with today, tomorrow and the day after that? Don’t let the future surprise you– take charge and make decisions about what 2019 will manifest! If you need help, reach out and ask for it. Retirement living is the beginning of a whole new exciting chapter in your life. Call us at The Piper 913.400.7006 and set a time to come and experience the difference!
